Poste what?
Back in the 1990s, Poste Restante was often the only way backpackers could stay in touch with the outside world. A friend or relative would write you a letter and you’d collect it weeks, sometimes months, later from a post office or a branch of American Express. Some letters vanished for ever, particularly if you changed your travel plans. It was like something from the Flintstones. (Mind you, if you need to be told the meaning of Poste Restante, you probably won’t get the Flintstones reference either. Ask an old person).
